Iyarpakai Nayanar

The place is Kaveri Poopattinam/Kavirippumpattinam. The river Kaveri was flowing here full with the grace of Lord Shiva. It was the Capital city of Chola Kingdom. The place was beautiful with tall trees giving its cool breeze and shade to the passers by. The branches were wide spread. Sitting under the tree anyone would lose this world and go to another dream world. Lying down you can go into deep sleep. Meditating you can see Lord Shiva dancing. There were plantation to the length and breadth of the place. All looked green and was beautiful for the eyes. It was a soothing morning with the birds chirping and the sun rising with its orange color. There was not much other sounds except someone shouting at the top of their voice calling someone else to do that work or this work. You could see the buffaloes being taken and cow being taken to plough the land and draw water from the well. You could also see horses moving around with people riding on it going towards market or other places. There were bullock carts taking people to other places and market. In this place under these surroundings lived a rich landlord by named Iyarpakai Nayanar. Blessed was he with wealth and rich thoughts. Blessed was he to live in such a healthy serene atomosphere inhaling the healthy air. Iyarpakai Nayanar was a successful businessman by the grace of God. He had one more good quality that is being a slave for the devotees of Lord Shiva. If he sees anyone having vibuthi in their forehead he would virtually become their slave. He would give them whatever they ask for rather more than what they ask for. Just like the land which he lived gave enough to the people living there he too was giving whatever the Lord Shiva's devotees asked him. Iyarpakai Nayanar had a beautiful wife who was devoted to her husband. She lived her life as a high disciplined lady always ready to please her husband and do whatever he wishes. Blessed was Iyarpakai Nayanar to have such a obedient lady as his wife. Whoever does not want to live such a pleasing and happy life just as Iyarpakai Nayanar lived having everything that he wanted. Right from the resourceful land with green fields, healthy air and abundant Kaveri water everything was available in plenty for him. Lord Shiva was very pleased at his devotion that he showed towards Him by serving and helping the devotees of Him. The three eyed God wanted to show Iyarpakai Nayanar's character to the whole world especially to the people living there. So He took the disguise of a devotee of Lord Shiva and visited the land of beauty where Iyarpakai Nayanar lived and served his devotees. God showed Himself as a vedic scholar. Naturally Iyarpakai Nayanar became privileged and very happy to receive a scholar who is close to God and knows Vedas. He welcomed him bowing with utmost respect.
